This photograph presents a low Alaskan sun carving an aperture through a calved iceberg from the Colony Glacier—a luminous portal that frames the pale sky. Glassy blue ice scatter’s the light while the arch and its long shadow reveal both fragility and force in a shifting polar scene. I shot this standing on the frozen ice of Lake George as the light fell through the hole; the cold bit my cheeks and I felt a quiet mix of awe and concern for how these formations are changing. I create images like this to reveal the North’s complexity and to prompt reflection on how light and temperature reshape our land. A framed print of Sun Portal brings a contemplative, resonant presence to a room and would make a thoughtful addition to your space.
