I have a connection with this Cottonwood Tree. I was present when it fell. It was very late in the day, overcast but calm, the air was still. I first heard the sound of cracking. I looked in the general direction of the sound, but initially saw nothing. Then, ever so slowly it began to slightly tip, thereupon falling gently, gracefully as it came to ground. I was taken by how the whole event passed. It was not a violent, destructive, tumultuous crash, but more of an eloquent acceptance of final destiny. I knew then I had to honor that moment with a fitting image and its story. This fallen tree stretches across a vibrant meadow, its rugged bark contrasting beautifully with the lush green grass and delicate yellow flowers that blanket the ground. Framed by flourishing trees, the scene opens up to reveal majestic snow-capped mountains in the distance, hinting at the wild beauty of Alaska.
